It’s all about who does and doesn’t see
The private heart
beneath the public mask
That’s locked away; and when you lose the key
And you need help,
but you’re too scared to ask,
It’s all about who reaches out to you—
Who makes you see
beyond your own despair—
Who looks at you and says “What can I do?”—
Whose every answer
is “Because I care.”
Because it’s all about the help we give
To those without a
hope. It’s what we do
When doing nothing’s easy—how we live
Among and with
ourselves—that sees us through
The lonely
worst of life, till we can say
We’re not alone—unless
we look away.
